As part of the “Forever Peaking From Above” series of releases raising money for Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio, Lobotomy Records is proud to present two exclusive DJ mixes compiled and mixed by Jon Keating. These mixes feature standout music from Phil K’s career, including original productions, remixes, selections from the Zero Tolerance back catalogue, and tracks that were regularly heard in his DJ sets and included in official mix compilations. As a special bonus, the tracks on these mixes are also available as unmixed, DJ-friendly tunes, giving a new generation of DJs access to some of the most iconic music from the history of the Australian underground scene.

The first of the two mixes focuses on the dark, moody tribaland progressive house sound that was pushed by Phil K and his fellow Sunny resident DJs in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Beginning with the airy chimes of the Ambient Edit of LoStep’s “6am Sedna”, the first third of the mix rolls through chuggy, percussive house grooves, including a previously unreleased version of “The Bubblegum Track” from Sphere & Dave Preston. Luke Chable’s “Eat Static” signals the arrival of the darker, tougher portion of the mix, which peaks with another of his classic tunes in the form of “Sealer’s Cove”. Things take a more meditative turn for the final third, showcasing the more stripped-down, but still driving progressive house Phil was known for when playing early morning sets, before finishing with the uplifting Tangleray & Vance Musgrove remix of “Villain”, a favourite closing track in many of Phil’s sets.
